Derbyshire county council destroying another ancient byway

I ride MTBs. I also walk a lot, in the peaks, Wales, and Lakes. I'll put my head above the parapet and say that I'm also a keen recreational 4x4 driver, again, in the peaks and wales (and closer to home too).

I've walked and driven a lot of the 'remedial' works in the peaks over the last few years, and honestly don't understand what/who they think they're helping. As a walker, the trails become ugly, sterile and tedious. Amd with some of the larger covings, downright dangerous to walk on, leading to people walking off the track anyway!

I do agree that some trails are ruined by 4x4s - we took a concious decision years ago to exercise voluntary restraint; if a greenlane is becoming impassable in anything other than a 4x4, then we won't use it. Unfortunately, whilst a LOT (IME the majority) of 4x4 drivers share this view, a few don't and that is a problem. the track leading up to stanage edge a few years ago was an obvious example, overuse on a surface that couldn't sustain the traffic.

Flattening/Grading just isn't the answer.
