Deore XT Headset help needed!

Hi, I have a Deore Xt head set (probably M730) from the 1989 era.
I took it apart to clean and rebuild it, there is a small plastic washer which came off the lower headset. I'm not sure where exactly it goes or where it fits! I think it somehow fits inside the lower rubber seal. It's a similar diameter to the rubber seal.

Any idea's?

cup, bearings, rubber seal, plastic washer (with vertical edge going upwards) , crown race.

think of it as a cover for the rubber seal (O-ring btw)

So it goes between the crown race and the rubber seal?
I think I tried that and it just falls onto the crown of the fork as it's diameter is too big to fit onto the crown?

As far as I know it does (taking from memory of my M901 XTR model which I assume is similar)

almost like it sits in a ring made for it on the crown race.

so since it falls past it, either
a) chuck it in th spares box as it not important
b) pictures and exact-ish model
