Found a 1950's/60's Raleigh royale frame fly tipped with its fork in the local waste ground. Possible been involved in a slight fire incident in that the paint on the rear triangle is no more. The green paint at the front is intact and fades rather nicely into the bare metal at the rear. As a consequence i gave it a rub down and then several coats of clear laquer, strangely it looks quite nice. I think the frame is 22" size but all the transfers indicating the tubeset are gone but i'm presuming Reynolds 531 of some sort and centre pull brakes based on the cable hanger over the seat stays.
Anyway a friend of my upstairs neighbour spotted it and thought that would make a good fast commuter for himself and I have been commisioned to build it up for him. A problem has arisen in that the bottom bracket shell has a slight dent in it that has made the right side slightly oval. Consequently the right hand cup does not want to engage in the threads. I am aware of Raleighs belief that 26 TPI threading was the best and I do not believe this is the problem.
Any suggestions for returning the right side of the shell to circular other than a proffesional frame builder. Or would fitting a self threading cartidge B/B be a solution, these have to be tapped in untill they meet the thread on the other half of the cartridge and thus could force the shell into shape plus sort the B/B issue out as well.
Hopefully you can help out plus point me in the direction of a reasonable 26 TPI headset. The frames too nice to bin just yet
