people here very often buy bikes then part them out for a profit... only do so less openly

thats slightly different, and in many cases splitting of bikes is just as open.
recognising a potential profit in line with the hassle (& risk) of selling multiple items on the strength of buying one (big & cumbersome) item, is different to buying one smaller one and moving it on for a 300/400/500% profit.

Although behind closed doors, I agree that most may probably do the same. Having said that you'll struggle to buy a bargain anywhere without someone on here noticing it!
I have witnessed quite a few 'you pay what I paid' bargain transactions on here too.

OP's openess is not in question, just the figures originally mentioned.

It's a nice frame though!

And I have been on the fortunate end of such a deal today, and I am utterly grateful, however the negativity that this thread began with was what I was specifically referring to

There is more mutual love here than most forums, you just have to see the sheer volume of Karma stuff in the classifieds for that... I just felt it was a tad disrespectful to be jumping on a guy for openly and honestly stating that he has had some bad fortune and needs to raise some funds

It should not matter to anyone what somebody paid for something, as long as its a fair price that is being asked, and that it wasn't nicked in the first case

Good luck Greenstiles.... it you'll get a better price on ebay, and everything will come good
Been there, waded through the shite to get to the other side. We all have to go through it ocaissionally... keeps us humble
