isnt that just a case of the other bidder having placed a bid rather than using a tool? my auction sniper only places the bid in the closing seconds of the auction - avoids this situation

For all intent and purposes, you bid up the guy's high bid through ebay's own automatic process. You fail at policing the iternets.

My snipe hits within a few seconds before end of play, so 'your' bidder had simply placed a larger bid than the current display, and you were simply uping the bids until his/her max. bid would have been met.

But if it is not something you want to buy, and presumably you are not shill biding on your own item (very bad form)...why is it any of your business?

That's not meant to be a rude question, I just don't understand your motive.

You are obviously not aware how auction snipers (or auctions?) work, that face palm is well earned

An auction sniper will bid your highest bid in the last seconds of the sale.

-If the current bid price is higher than your pre-set snipe bid, you won't win the auction.
- If some one has a higher maximum manually entered bid already placed, you won't win the auction.
- If some one has a higher sniper bid placed than your sniper, you wont win the auction.

The only possible advantage on pricing for the sniper is that they don't draw attention to the item by adding to the bid count.

On top of that, you were bidding against an ebay automated bid any way, so in effect all you have done is raised the price for some one bidding on an item who is using the system in a way that you see as fair, nice move!

I also have to agree that I am puzzled

you say it wasn't your item so you weren't attempting to shill bid it up. So it looks like you were bored, being mischevious and thought you would make another pay more for an item they wouldn't have had too

Am I reading that part right?

if so I can't see why you would?

I'm finding these "mirror rants" as of late somewhat peculiar.

snipe=cheat=period.

I always cancel my items before the end if they have no bids and loads of watchers..... :P

I want the best price for things the same as everyone who sells.....not for some cheater to enter a sniper and not give someone else chance to up their bid....

Don't agree with them myself, set the program go off for the day blah blah....think it was fairer by hand. Any way i was a bit naughty earlier.... .....i deliberatly kept bidding on an item that i know the rough value of.......just so the 1 bidder (who had set his tool to go up an odd about each time) would have pay at least a decent price for the item, not mine by the way...i stopped just short of what i thought it was worth and they were still ahead............hah

Presumably the 1st bidder set his/her bid at an amount they were happy and able to pay. Everyone likes a bargain, but I don't get what you've acheived - making someone pay more for something you wanted - is that not just schadenfreude?

Ebay just seems to make people act irrationally.
