Hi, does anyone have any pointers on how to decode a GT frame number.
as a taster it starts b9001600 but the last 2 digits are too filled with paint to read.

thanks

it's a small Zaskar Race in the yellow and blue colours, I think made before GT went Bust. But I was hoping the frame number would be able to tell me more, just as a raleigh frame number does.

I'm not sure you know, the serial number isn't right for any prebust zaskar or comeback one far as i know. is the serial number on the bb or drop out?. the 2 numbers you can't read are the frame size. if the top cap's curved, that's pretty much a zaskar nono. i've never seen one that's real with a curved plate. non carbon. also all zaskars i know of have the numbers 6061on the opposite drop out if i remember correctly. pics would help though.

Nope first year Zaskar Races were 7005 curved top cap and built in Taiwan. Available in Billet (silver) w/blue stripes or yellow with red and black trim.. This topic on Zaskar Race's gets hashed around every year. Search. I can post the catalog pics if you want the proof. Made a mistake and bought a Zaskar Race with MIT decals still on it. Never made that mistake again. Probably the least desirable of all the Zaskar's built.

thanks for the posts guys. Well after reading through endless threads, seems the different types of Zaskars stir up some emotions
Found out that the one I have, or rather my wife's came from Merlin cycles in 2002 and sold as bankrupt stock.
It's a 12.5" doglegged top tube frame. disk mounts so rear drop outs are far too fancy to have a frame number, so that's under the BB. So perhaps it's a 2001 Zaskar Race.
Regarless, the frame is v light and has built into a decent bike. My wife loves it and wouldn't swap it for anything.
