Damaged IRD seatpost

I made a separate thread about an old Cannondale I found here.

One of the parts it came with is this IRD seatpost, which was a pleasant surprise! Something less pleasant was finding out that the beam used to tighten the saddle has a crack...




Could it be replaced or realistically repaired? I would obviously like to salvage it!

Plenty of oats have that style of fitting, buy a cheap one for parts, or you could buy some tube and cut some holes, I say tube, I mean rod.

I was under the impression that the cracked piece was bonded to the main seatpost part, but I was able to remove it.



As @ishaw said, I'll find a 1/2" aluminum rod and make a new part, it shouldn't be too hard!

I forgot to post an update!

I ended up buying a 1/2" aluminum rod and cut it to match the length of the old one. I filed both ends and drilled holes with the same spacing.

I tossed one of those in the trash years ago.

Cool OG posts but they can squeek LF after a few years of hard riding.
