One of the speakers on out tv has started making a high pitch irritating scratching noise, taken it off and its a sony 13cm speaker.

any reason why I cannot fit a 13cm car speakers to replace them?

Cheers

Dave

if the replacement has the same 'ohm' rating then should be OK i would have thought.

But i stand to be corrected

Should be ok. As tintin40 said, they do vary in ohms but I have found them interchangable. Don't know if sound quality is affected though. Make sure you match the polarity. Otherwise you get one speaker going convex as the other goes concave. They tend to cancel each other out and give a dead sound.

Have you considered feeding the sound output through a hi fi?

(I once put a tv through a 100 watt marshal stack! :))

also if not paired correctly then one will be louder than the other etc etc

just a little aside - if your TV has speaker terminals, you can add a subwoofer with a high level input - speaker cables go to the sub, then back to your TV speakers.

This way you get a high quality sound for normal TV watching and can leave the pile of other equipment off unless its a really good film.

I adapted my TV this way with a better crossover in the TV speakers, better tweeters and drive units, then a big Gale subwoofer.
