I have these cyclone cranks which I may fit to a Ku. I’d planned to go RF or maybe M952 but theee have fell into my lap and are different. IMG_2799.webp

They need to be black however. So one option is to have them anodised. (I’ve a guy)

But …. Are the black cutouts anything other than just paint? I assume it’s paint just to give contrast but didn’t want to send them off and realise it’s something in the core of the crank.

Also there isn’t much info around on them. Anyone know much apart from the 1 catalogue pic online.

Hi, a nice one 👍

Cyclone cranks have been produced by CPI in Taiwan

and there are many different variations starting from 1995, most iconic are the ones with full cut-outs (but maybe also the most filigrane)

Some other brands sold those CPI cranks too, some OEMs like Wheeler or Winora have used CNC cranks from CPI at some models and I have a picture of a pretty similar one like yours, which was sold from Point Racing.

Some do have a CPI stamp at the back, yours too?

Not sure yet if I personally would recommend to anodize them all black, as the CNC work is with that current black finish nicely exposed.
It looks with that like a full cut-out, at least from a distance.

However maybe in all black they will look more nobel or high quality like AC components CNC cranks? For instance:

Thank you.

Mine have no stamp apart from the length.

They are a cool crank and very different to others I own so I’d like to use them. They remind me of L&M a bit too.

Issue is the builds I’m doing all demand a black crank
