Cutting a carbon steerer tube...

Use a fine tooth blade and finish off with a rasp of the file or a low grit paper . Simple and not as scary as people will make out .

And wrap the area your gonna cut with masking tape first.

And if your crap at cutting in a straight line gently tighten a
jubilee clip round it to act as a fence/guide.

.

good tips, thanks.

I wondered if it were as straightforward as that.

I heard not to breath in the dust, but also that the fibres can delaminate if not re-sealed after cutting, do I not need to worry about this?

You can wipe some epoxy round the unsealed end if you like, but I did'nt bother

I am surprised that neil has not popped up to say "CARBON blah blah blah"yet

word has it that when he was fat he broke a carbon seatpost  and now hates the stuff  Learn to ride with some finesse I say

i heard you put the stem to desired length and bash the rest/exposed part off with a hammer

Wierdly ive been using a carbon bar for the last 5/6 years with no problems at all....but just cant bring myself to purchase a carbon seatpost.
Wierder still now my road bike is a carbon frame, carbon fork & carbon steerer....

I guess subconsciously id rather use my face as a brake block than use my arse/nad region as a carbon shard magnet.

He's an Oxford graduate and can speak about 6 languages, yet give him a set of tools and a simple task and he'll go at it like a monkey with a bone.

And if he's reading this he knows I love him
