Trying to true a rear crossmax wheel for a mate, when I turn the non-driveside (which is radial) nipples the spokes also turn. Is this normal? I can turn a couple of them as much as I like and they don't seem to get any tighter... Help appreciated before I take it all to bits...

Thanks, I read it but it didn't seem to say you need to do anything different than normal, only if you're replacing a spoke do you have to dissassemble the wheel. Unless I've misunderstood something.

Edit- sounds like the spoke is held in the hub with a nut, possibly this is spinning allowing the spoke to turn without tightening? I'll take it apart and have a looksie (famous last words).

You are meant to use a special tool to stop the spoke turning (or strong fingers), it is a straight pull spoke which is not fixed to the hub..

If you cannot turn the spoke nipple while holding the spoke tightly, try a little release oil on the nipple.

PS be careful with the spoke tension, it is not too difficult to over tighten.
