Crank Problem

Is it a problem with the cranks... the bike has a 47.5mm chain line so that BB should be correct.. the 113mm BB is for a 50mm chain line.

That's that idea blown then

Did you measure the chain line while you had the bottom bracket installed?

If so, was it 47.5 to 50mm?

Well, that's bob on, so I'm now really confused.

You can get away with about another 2mm on the driveside, will that give you enough clearance on the non-driveside? If not, then I'm a bit stumped.

Are you sure the non-drive crank arm is OK and not sitting too far onto the spline? Silly question, they are a matching pair of cranks aren't they.

Yes they are matching... and no.. the none drive side aint on too far.. i checked how far the spindle was into the crank arm before i pulled it off... ... should i start and cry .....haha.... out of interest.. my friend has a Sram/Truvativ crankset with external BB taken off a Chrisboardman,,, can that be fitted to older MTB.... everyone seems to use Shimano internal/Cartridge stuff.... is there a reason for that.

Yes you can use an external BB, but you'll need matching cranks, so not a cheap option.

The reason most use the older type BB's is because they are using older cranksets.. plus there is a suspicion that internal BB's last longer.

As for crying, not yet, as there is a solution here somewhere, it's just a bit hard to see via tinternet.

Have you got a decent LBS that can take a look and advise?

Yeah there is a decent guy who is what i consider to be a proper bike shop..he has been around since i was a kid... will pop it down this week and see what he says..... thanks for the help ok..
