Crank arm shortening - any recommendations in the UK ?

I have a set of XT M730 cranks 175mm I need cutting down and retapping to 155mm for my daughters build... I need it done before Christmas :xmas-wink: I know about Highpath Engineering but Chris is away, not back till Dec, so no guarantees it will get done on time !

Want to get it done in the UK.

Any suggestions very welcome

Watching this with interest as I wanted to do the same but was lucky to find a set of 155mm Shimanos. Middle burns come in 160mm which could be more cost effective in the long run? Have you tried Rampage?

I suggest you ask this question in the human powered vehicle section on the CTC forum. 'Bent riders often like shorter cranks and I'm sure someone there is more likely to have an answer for you.

Yeah..I have looked at all the options inc Middleburn 160s which look great. Cheapest option would be to shorten my old XTs plus they look period. Il have a look at the HPV section on CTC. That's a great suggestion I'd diy but if its even slightly out then its a scrap job :facepalm:

Spa cycles do their XD2 cranks in 160mm for £25. Very good they are too, made by Sugino.

Choose your xt cranks wisely. Later model xtr and xt possibly denoted by hollowtech are hollow, a u shaped eztrusion with the open end welded up, as seen on weight weenies website.

So your hole may end up in the box section and you cannot tap a thread in air.

The earlier cranks will be solid as i have seen what you plan to do done

Wow brilliant find Always loved Sugino gear. Il get a 160 as a back up in case I can't get this done on time. No worries the XT cranks are solid top quality alloy. As good as it gets

Stronglight also do their Impact cranksets in a 'Kid' variant. Available in 5mm increments between 130mm and 155mm.

Basically these are based on Sugino cranks from the 1990s.

It's a pity they don't do that one in a triple, although you could use an adaptor chainring.

Cranks are not actually drilled and tapped though, but have a big steel inserts wedge in them to stop them ripping straight out.
