You'll be lucky to find anyone who's prepared to ship to the UK (from the states anyway, i've been turned down half a dozen times. If you get lucky then Paypal is by far the safest.

craig's list

Most people who advertise on Craig's list are looking to save some time for themselves by not boxing and shipping their bike. They prefer someone local come over and pick it up.

yup, my experience too. it worked a couple of times though that the seller took the bike to his LBS and they shipped it UPS. or they boxed it and the seller took it to USPS. it's very much a matter of communication - if the seller is communicative at all. most don't even bother to reply. it's often much easier if one can get the seller on the phone. many are just worried that non-local buyers are scammers and want to rip them off. if they understand the desire and passion to get that particular bike they may be more co-operative.

or find someone who is local and willing to help...

good luck, carsten

Personally I think paypal only seem to help out if the sh*t hits the fan when theres an problem with an EBAY transaction and EVEN THEN they drag their heels with the `automated emails` for ages.
IMO the whole thing is based on trust and If someone decides to skin you then in most cases you`ve had it.
Sorry to be so downbeat but thats the way it is dude. :?

Have to agree here. Paypal only assist with ebay transactions and then within a relatively short timescale, and with Verified Sellers. Think I've just been stung for $1200 by a guy in Colorado!

Beware before parting woth your cash. Paypal doesn't give as much protection as you think.

I bought something I found on eBay, but persuaded the seller to pull before the auction finished - he basically messed me around (see Nishiki thread!), so i put in a dispute 7 days after purchasing, after a few emails back and forth they refunded me (on March 31st) and I got the money cleared in full in my account today.

so, sometimes they come good.

Sorry to butt in, how much is the postage to send a frame from the USA to UK? any of you bought one from the States?

My $.02 - Pretty much the same as what's been said. Craigslist wants to promote "community" classifieds, hence there is no way to search all of Craigslist for any specific item.

But you could get lucky. Thats how I found my Wicked... we started up an email chat, I offered her a little more than what she wanted, and she was more than happy to take it to the LBS for packaging and shipping.

Bought a frame from California, think it was about £40 shipping, then add another £40 customs charges on that aswell
