Coyote Cracked

Oohh classic frame. My fave frame by a mile - a coyote HT2. Nice 8) .

Mine went at the same place and at the top of the headtube as well. I love these frame but IMHO time to retire the old girl. Give her a kiss and stick her in the garage to admire - I bet you had some good times riding her.

....Then go and buy a new frame. She's loverly though - get some full pics up. I've built up a HT5 now...cool 8).

You'll be mad riding that anywhere like it is. That crack is your warning, you probably won't get another, with aluminium especially!

just get it plated and welded
any decent fab shop should be capable of repairing it

i response to your wanted add ,a local shop that ironically has just closed had one in the same blue colour ,i'll see if i can track it down
for you ,just dont get your hopes up .

Drill the end of the crack to stop it spreading any further then make a collar and shrink fit it round the bottom of the headtube.

Yep, I was going to suggest that, stop drill at the end of the crack, that method is used in the aviation industry, so it works. But I was not going to suggest making a collar to shrink fit, but simply wrap a jubillee clip around the bottom and tighten to hold it together whilst searching out a good aluminium welder. It is not a difficult repair.

There seems to be the notion that this is an easy repair

I weld titanium, alu and mild steel for a living and i would probably say it isn't worth fixing.. Aluminium is a terrible material when it is stressed. You could potentially repair it for it to split again in same place or in the next weakest point..

As already mentioned any welder would have to be careful that the penetration from weld doesn't deform the inner of the tube.. With this in mind fixing some kind of god damn ugly shroud around the tube would be the safest option..

Oh and tig welding on the dc setting is a big no no.. ac needs to be used
