Right, can anyone recommend a decent courier to pick up a bike for me from Newport, south Wales and deliver it to south London? The trick is that it's a 1930's tandem, and it's a bit heavy.
I have tried Shipley, but it's coming in a bit expensive at over £60. I also had a look at Paisley Freight at £45, but got scared off by some scare stories on the CTC forum I looked at about bikes being damaged by drivers straight from the lower end of the food chain, and Direct courier systems want the bike boxed up before they'll consider it. Obviously boxing up a tandem isn't that straightforward, and as it's an eBay purchase I'm not sure the seller would be up for it, to be honest. The bike looks a tough old thing, but it's 80 years old and in fine shape and I really don't want some sub-contractor goon hauling it around in a Transit filled with scaffolding and knocking the crap out of it.

So, any words of advice folks? TIA.

Theres a couple more shiply type ones that are better/cheaper.

But your best bet is the good people of rb.com... Maybe change the title of your post so people can see its sth. wales where you need pick up?

My little boys mavrick got ferried down from yorkshire once and passed through half of the people on here before it got to london...

Re:

Thanks for that Mr G, I'll look at those too.

I would ask the good folks on here, but it's a bit of a beast and frankly I wouldn't want to inconvenience anyone too much. I'd get it myself, but I'm studying over in Norwich right now, exams are coming thick and fast and I don't really have the free time at weekends until the second week of August. It's nice to know that people would help out tho :)
