Yes they did, they also produced a small number off cars, there is around 10 still in existence, I think only 30 ever built.

This is what they look like, there were 3 a good wood last year.

whats the bonnet on the MG?

my old man is rebuilding a 1960 speedwell sprite GT, based on a Austin healey chassis, looks like a similar style?

It's a Mk2 ashley lemans front end.
It looks different because the bonnet vent shouldn't be open but the previous owner drilled a load of holes in it.

believe it or not the previous owner is an aircraft technician! he was mid way through ratting it.

i ratted my wife's mk3

because it was a total mess and would have cost at least £300 to square it up. added to the 300 purchase cost it was just not worth it. this way we have had a bit of fun with it, i think it looks cool (especially when i put some of my better wheels on it!) and worst case its always going to be worth £100 in scrap.

Been through a few car projects myself, my current one is this ex-tarmac rally RWD MK4 Escort.

It's had a pretty colourful past and was a formidable car BITD, running a 4.2 quad Webered John Eales Rover V8, must have sounded nice too

I'm building it with a 3.9 V8 and a Capri rear axle, rest of the suspension/steering etc is group 4 MK2 Escort, i'm finding most off the shelf parts need modified in some way though.

Also built this Polo, had a MK3 Polo of some sort for a while now, broke two for parts so have tons of spares.

It's funny how things change over time.

Now a rough looking car can be considered 'ratted' and pretty cool, people even go out of their way to make their cars look rough on purpose,
back when I was a teenager if it looked that was it was just considered a bag of sh!t.

Looking back it appears I was way ahead of my time and 20 years ago I was the 'ratting' king of Cornwall
