I'm trying to do the maths; if a guy is in his 50s now, could he have been a professional BMX rider in the 1970s? Was BMX around then?

Or would his riding days have to date from the 1980s? :?

I may be mistaken, but i thought BMX started in the early 70's but racing didn't start in the UK until 1980.

Gary Turner started building frames for his son (to replace the heavy frames he was using at the time) in 73. GT was started in 74, and sponsored pros almost immediately, so yes, he could have been a sponsored pro in the early 70s.
