Contemporary replacement pads for Shimano U-brakes

Seeing as I have a habit of acquiring exclusively 1989 bikes, i'd love to know if anyone has had any success swapping out old U-brake pads for a modern equivalent? Would prefer not to have to rely on NOS pads every time i need to change some!

Any guidance most appreciated!

Just about anything that is used for cx brakes, V brakes, bmx brakes etc will fit.
