Earlier this week I got hands on this Concorde Mirage. A mountainbike that is named after two supersonic airplanes. That must be good!
Is it good?
Yes, it is. The frame has a Canadian geometry. That is a good start It is build using Tange Seamless tubing. The Tange Struts forks, designed in cooperation with Fat Chance according to the Tange catalog, is a nice touch. There are more Fat ties: the model a step up, the Team Half Track, used Tange Prestige tubing and was also marketed as Team Chance on the Canadian market. A budget alternative for the US built Fat Chance. The story goes that Chris Chance wasn't really a fan of the initiative by Veltec (distributor of both brands), but in 100 years nobody will remember that detail. It is a pretty frame. Nicely welded and de serial starts with H, what probably means that Hodaka is responsible for the job.
The black LX parts and Exage ES cranks are supplied by Shimano and Zoom took care of the cockpit and the post. Polished Araya RM20 rims and two Panaracer Smoke tires complete the Asian contribution. The blue collar guy had to spend 1695 guilders of his wel earned sallery to acquire this blue collar guy mountainbike back in the early 90s. I think that was a good deal.
