What is the recommendation for storing back up data? Pen drive or external hard drive? Or summat else?

I use a lacie hard drive that is also rubber protected from dropping :D

I use 400gb and 500gb external hard drives to archive and back up files pretty regularly.
I fill them up pretty quickly with video files though because I'm a professional film-maker and the last thing I want is to lose work for a client.
I mostly use Freecom drives as I've never had any problems with them at all.

I use a lacie hard drive that is not rubber protected from dropping..........but is designed by Porsche (waddevaTF that means!):D

I use various pen drives, SD cards, Compact Flash, etc for short term storage, but have proper backup and archives on external HD- £50 will get ye one with more than enough room- I think ye can even get TerraByte ones now for @ £100.

I also archive some work to CD/DVD disc, kind of belt and braces paranoia- mainly design work- like Paul's Video stuff above- it means there's a version of files somewhere in the event of a Monster F***Up.

External HDD on my desk, plus DVD's with the critical stuff (family photos etc) also made and kept at my parents in case of fire or burglary here.

Possibly all on the large side. It was a colleague asking about backing up his wifes accounts and some photo's, I suggested a pen drive (16gb). But it got me wondering about the most reliable format and I thought the pen drive because of the lack of moving bits?
