Compulsory Digital TV

That's it, I have come to the conclusion digital tv is crap, we have been sold a disaster.

Freeview, I am not paying for more crap, but freeview what I take to be the replacement for the reasonable terrestrial tv we have had is very poor by comparison.

Honestly, I would have preffered to stick with terrestrial tv, but we are forced to have digital.

But one thing does amuse me, a government at one time was making noises about the break up of the family, the addictions to gambling and the seemingly endless attraction to pornography as being the cause of British society failing and then Tony Bliar announnced we were all to have digital tv which is guess what, full of gambing, buy channels and soft porn.

But lets look at this, first it was BBC staying on after the traditional shutdown with the national anthem, I remember that, bed time, then it was Channel 4 with it's little blue triangles, risque for the time, then Channel 5 for whatever that was there for and now digital transmission.

Looking back and this must be a sign that I am getting old, but TV was far better about the time of Channel four and the BEEB staying open for business after twelve, the best I think it was, as now it is pathetic and purile.

Oh I have had sky digital before, but it was literally ninety nine channels of shit to choose from, so I got rid of that.

Tv sucks and at last I am going to take the Why don't You suggestion and

Turn off the tv and do something less boring instead

You know silverclaws, I think you've just coined Sky's next advertising tag-line... "Ninety-nine channels of shit to choose from"

I remember back in the late 80s, my friend went to California on holiday. When he came back I asked him what it was like to have so many TV channels to choose from. He said "Terrible. Just dozens and dozens of channels of crap. We might only have four channels in this country, but the quality of each channel is that much better because it isn't spread out across dozens of channels."

And here we are in 2010. With dozens of channels of crap.

No wonder I've just treated myself to a Sony FM tuner... 8)

yep go for it! i have just cancelled SkyTV and the licence runs out at the end of this month, will i miss it?

soon i will know.

I have had a problem with my digital tv,anyone else had this?

You are watching a film/news story etc.and the screen freezes stutters and then shuts down completely,we get this even if the weather is remotely icky

At least with the old fashioned system the picture just went a bit grainy but you could continue watching the damn film etc.

Rant over

If you have a half decent screen digital freeview (with a good signal) is mostly far far superior to analogue. If you find the analogue picture better I'd suggest you get someone to check your aerial.

As for the content, well, you may have a point. However you do of course get the four main channels and some of the other channels are worth having for free imo, stuff like bbc3, bbc4, itv4 (TdF coverage), e4, film4, more4, bbc news etc.

I think the problem is that the licence fee has not changed drastically but the bbc are spreading their money to thinly and hence there are to many repeats etc.,film 4 is good though and so are a few other channels :?
