I am rebuilding an old worn Claud Butler Sovereign for my mum... 80’s, Reynolds 531 lady’s frame. Will be 18 speed with gripshift sis courtesy of 5mm spaced 6 speed Suntour freewheel.
So far I have most stuff. I have gone for mtb rear derailleur and front derailleur as she wants a straight bar with gripshift style changing. The front derailleur should be good for 50t (spec is 48 but should just squeeze 50 even if need to make a slight mod)
Got all the bits together except I need a triple front chain set that’s compatible with 7/21 speed shimano sis. Aprox 50/40/30 or closeish to.
Now I am not sure if need to change bottom bracket as well. Assume I need one similar width but slightly wider on spindle to make use of inner ring.
So guess a triple matching what I am after and if it comes with a compatible bottom bracket that would work well with 80’s uk 27” wheeled frame then even better.
