Looking for a compact camera to slip into a pocket when out riding. Was going to try to pick up an ebay bargain but will probably splash out for something new. I've noticed the time lag between pressing the button and taking the pic on older cameras isn't the best.

I was thinking of a Ricoh since they look very nice 8) and would possibly be the compromise(big) between point and shoot and a DSLR. Practically they probably aren't the best idea so I've started looking at the Pentax optio W60, I know Ricoh have a comparable version and Olympus also have a similar camera. Is there anything else out there? Anyone using the Pentax?

Kaiser,

in a similar situation currently. Smashed two regular compacts by dropping them. As such decided next would be a 'rugged' compact. Having looked around pretty much decided to go for the Lumix DMC-FT1 (or perhaps the newly released FT2). Argos are doing a good price on these, sadly none in stock near me. Had considered the Pentax but the reviews aren't stellar.

I've used two different types of Olympus Mju for work and play, both take decent enough photos as well as being drop/dust/splash proof (all of which I have (accidently!) found out in the past...

I'm looking for a pocket cam too, will check out those mentioned.

In todays world of never printing photos I'd like to have one with a native 1920x1080 resolution at 16:9 ratio. My pics now get shown off on the TV.

Higher resolution for the odd few printed too, maybe still at 16:9.

I though digicams would have followed digital displays in this respect by now.

I guess if the CCD is 4:3 then they would have at least etched a 16:9 guide on the viewfinder so I display centred.

Hmm, still looking.

The Olympus are ok, be carefull with big hands/fingers as the lens is positioned in the upper corner :?
Used canon ixus in the past wich are sturdy camera's that take excellent pictures. Panasonic LUMIX FX35 is great too.
If you have a little more space in your rear pocket go fora Canon G11,
.... and don't forget to share some pics with us :D
cheers Roy

Great stuff folks :D , the Lumix is winning on looks and the FT2 doesn't have too much over the FT1. :)

After posting a similar thread a while back, a lot of people recommended the Lumix range to me.
So i've followed their advice and now own a TZ7 and have to admit it's awesome! 8)

The new model John spoke of appears to be being released in the next week or so. I'll hang of till the end of the month, see if the FT1 goes lower.
