COMMUNITY LIVING ?

Spent some time years ago with the Hare Krishna's......great food, chance to stay in one of the Beatles old bedrooms..........ironically thought getting up a 4.30 every morning for temple was too, much......NOW getting up at 4.30 everymorning as a bin man !!! Karma i say :D :D :D

ok..it's just i was originally from that neck of the woods....out of interest what do you think of the Hare Krishna's these days ? I don't get to chat with many who have dabbled with them like me..........hope you don't mind me asking i know these things can kinda be personel and stuff......

From what I understand it's quite different these days (I dabbled nearly 20 years ago for a couple of years).. they were just introducing doorstep book selling and stuff but they don't do that any more - thankfully.

It used to be a very austere life, some elder devotees having digestive issues from poor nutrition.. and unless you were living in an ashram, you had little chance of success..

Was an incredible time though..

There's loads of conspiracy theories about the organisation too.. dating back to the 60's when Prabhupada was around..

I still retain certain beliefs but not wholesale any more.. all my books are still in the loft and my kids want to read them (although, a 10 year old wading through the Bhagavad Gita probably won't end well  )..

It wasn't the early starts that done me in.. 4a.m. and 16 rounds before breakfast. .it was living in the real world and trying to be a good devotee.. imo it's extremely hard.

And it helps if you are open to suggestion too.. .. .. more senior devotees will take on new devotees who they think can be manipulated easier. . .

I'm living the full demon life now but have a few contacts from the HK's re-made through Facebook (odd though that may sound  )

My 1st main contact was 20 years ago too ! I started Ashtanga yoga (still do a bit every morning and used to teach the 1st set)

I ran off to the manor twice in 1990-92 and continued practices for about 7 years mainly on my own meeting with the odd group or two within the uk.........

....like many religious ideals...........it all makes sence on paper.....but in reality people are people......and ALL religious books are written by people.

I'd quite like some of it to be true (maybe it is) but these days i'm leaning towards the ' brights' society movement and the ideas of Danial Dennet etc........ :D

I'm falling (VERY slowly) in a Buddha direction.... the monk who done my tattoo's spoke a lot of sense.

The HK's claim disciplic succession as proof of their validity...

An old friend of mine had the job of painting the temple room at the Manor and he roped me in to help him... good few days that was..

And pulling the Rathyatra cart through London all the while looking at the wheels and making an important decision

Visited the Budapest temple too, with Krishna Caitanya, in its early days.. that was a scream, especially selling books at the underground station

Mostly visited the Romford Nama Hatta though.. with Jayadeva, Saci Mata and Pia (now Gaurangi)
