Having just gone modern and dabbled into v-brakes I'm finding my levers not the comfiest to use.

I've moved from my M900's as they are getting cleaned up and they are really nice to use.

Anything as comfy in the v-brake world (that doesn't cost an arm and a leg) ?

I have the BL-M570 (M580 colouring) at the moment.

(Maybe that bolt through them with a H & L on it does somthing useful, and I eventualy figured out what the plastic clip on the back of the lever was for ... stupid ugly lever.)

Still I want a comfier lever.

but are an arm & a leg a £80 just for some levers (from CRC) assuming you mean BL-M970's

Are the XT or similar just a comfy to use, or these Avid things that seem a reasonable price at £18 (speed dial 7 2008), what about older levers.

The M970 look to have s similar lever to the M900 so looks like they should be comfier.

How do you mean not comfy? Is it that you aren't getting enough of your hand over them? I have a pair of full length ones you can have for not much.
Or is it something else? Reach?

i had those levers years ago , the m600 flavour though and hated them . kept cutting my finger on them

i use avids now , not sure what number but i think they are speed dial ( i also flip them so the bolt head doesnt go near my thumb )

chris, they just don't feel right and cause my fingers to ache after a ride and I don't think reach will solve it. It's more the way they are on my fingers, actual code is BL-M571 but they are all the same.

I brake with a finger or two normally and the M900 where just for far nicer to use and didn't make my hand ache after a ride. I know I use SRT-500R gripshift with them but that shouldn' alter the brakes.

May have to take a trip to the bike shops and try some out, but they all have bloody discs nowadays.

I think avid levers may be what you need?

If you can hunt down a pair of the Sram 9.0 composite levers that would be even better. I think the shape and feel are spot on, also because they aren't alloy they don't get cold in winter!

Al, a bit of a tart!! :D

I prefer the Xt
They dont cost the earth ,look good perform well

Add to the comfort-get the little neoprene sleeves that slip onto the levers 8)

XT M739 levers perform and feel very well!
In 2 flavours

They are very similar in design to the more expensive XTR M970

Failing that then try these

Lizard skins would just bulk them out making them harder to use, I don't have particularly large hands (~ size 8.5 whatever that means, I just know some easy on latex gloves that the NHS no longer needed and I now use where I work fit well  )
