It's a Colnago Master Mapei finish, but you're right the forks aren't original. This would've come with Precisa steel forks, painted or chrome, or the Carbon Flash fork if it was a Master X-Light.

They've done a good job of taking a Mapei finish on the forks but they're still fake!

Do you think it's had a respray, or at least a front end respray, which would expect a good match with the faux forks. I ask because didn't they all have chromed head lugs like the one below

I don't know anyone who can do a decent Mapei finish respray, so I think the frame paint is original, but the forks definitely not. I've seen a few masters without the chrome head lugs. No big deal, you can probably pick up a pair of Precisa forks for okay money (especially if the paint or chrome is bad) and make it good again. I'd be looking for a big discount on the frame tho ...

Here's a '94 Mapei master very similar to the one above. No chrome on the headlugs and a full painted Precisa fork. Note the complexity of the painting on the top tube, apparently it's a series of masks , not decals. I'd say it would be nigh on impossible to accurately reproduce.

If it has been in a head on collision and lost the forks there should be tell tale residue on the frame, feel underneath the top and down tube for any rippling to the metal or the paint.
