@Milesalex - Thanks for the update. I thought it was quite a rare issue having never seen it before. Then having seen your pictures it confirms that at least there is a solution!

Good to also hear the solution has lasted for you with no rear wheel falling off or anything.

@BigFoz - You're probably right. Mine is the C40 meaning there are a couple of places specialising in carbon repair but it will never be repaired to a factory-new state.

It's been 10 years now since the rear dropout repair, respray and it's still going strong.
I just thought I would share some photos:




I have recently returned to RetroBike having purchased this:
https://www.retrobike.co.uk/threads/kona-cindercone-94-sold.480031/ from @Airship17. Just returned from a 20mile mixed road/off-road loop and loving it. I'm going to strip it down and lightly restore it, replace cables any bearings etc and touch up the rusted paint chips.
