Clone GT project.

Retro Newbie
No idea if this'll pass 'scrutiny', but.....for what its worth!!

10 years ago i moved from London for North Bucks with family, last stop, Wandsworth Tip to get rid stuff. There by the metal skip waa a bike....wierd scott bandero frame, circa 2000 ish RST forks, but nice xt late '90 groupset and 521 sup rims.

So ive used it as is as a bit of a beater, joining kids for rides etc but overall it didnt mean much too me, didnt feel too special.

So, started doing up an old rockhopper my neighbours threw out as my eldest has outgrown his current steed. What with lockdown etc, used ebay and drifted into Zaskars.....

I had a Pantera '96 or so, was inspired by the Martins and got a local engineering co. to make chainring plate but couldn't afford ali so it was steel....couldn't buy them in the shops at that point, but loved that bike while envied the odd Zaskar rider!
Then the bike was nicked....

Anyway......still cant justify Zaskar right now, but, got an ali 7005 frame and spent 12 hrs filing scratches, sanding/wet sanding/polishing.
Getting Judy XC's media blasted for repaint.

Contentious bit.....disc hangers are getting grinded off, forks will be '96 SL yellow with stickers, frame will get '95 zaskar stickers, group set/wheels are degreased/polished (rims still have ribs on braking surface!)
Have kore stem/seatpost, GT seatclamp/headset topcap and NOS in bag camshaft grips.

So....sorry purists im making a clone, maybe one day ill get the Zaskar, but for now ill be happy, i think most people i know in town will assume ive bought a new bike.

Frame looks good, best to leave the Zaskar sticker off though in my opinion ;-)
