Clearing bottom bracket threads ..

So I painted a frame .. didn't make a good job of masking the threads in the bottom bracket .. in fact I didn't mask at all ...as a last resort I could use paint stripper to remove the new paint from the threads..is there an easier/safer way ?

You could take it to an LBS and they'd use a thread cutting / shell facing tool to do it the safest, most precise way. Expect to pay up to about £25 (the good tools to do this properly are £££ and it will take half an hour of mechanic's time).

Or, if there are bits of thread clean and clear deep inside the shell, make yourself a pointy tool (an old dead spoke filed to a point and with a 90 degree bend in the end a few mm down would be good) or use a flat-headed screwdriver you don't like any more, and scrape it in the thread, working your way out. You should be able to scrape / chip out the paint as you go, but of course you run the risk of knackering the threads if you're not careful to follow the groove.

HTH. :)

I have the taps available, but you could try a steel brush like this:

mounted onto a power drill to clear the paint.

All the best,

You can just cut a slot with a hacksaw or Dremel too.

I've done this tons with little bolts recently. So much I've now bought a tap set from ebay.
