Hydrofluoric acid mixed with phosphoric acid and a few drops of surfactant maybe.

You can asses the risk.

Recycle them and buy some new ones if generic in shape though, it's probably cheap in the long run.

Hydrofluoric acid can be fatal on skin contact.
I won't use it.

Hydrofluoric is pretty *special* stuff.
It's pretty unlikely any casual forum browsers will come across it, and thise who use it likely know the risks.
If you don't and you find some under your mum's kitchen sink, browse the internet judiciously to understand the risks....

Deox C or Deox Gel from Bilt Hamber

follow the instructions - de-greasing especially important.

amazing what this stuff will recover

This is a Porsche fuel pump cover one half's been immersed in deox c:

but you'll then be left with bare steel...

Re:

I use a Dremel with either a brass or stainless steel brush attachment.

They also make a narrow brush attachment, which is ideal for getting into rusty hex bolts.

There's rumours of it being in some commercial car wheel cleaners, no idea if it's true though.
