If it's a metallic finish I wouldn't use the wet and dry, I've found it makes the particles flat and dull.

Perhaps, rather than polishing after the T-cut stage, you could get it blown over with clear lacquer – might add so me protection to any chipped areas that have gone through to the metal.

Polish

Turtle wax do a renovating polish called safecut. It doesn't stink like T cut, is less Harsh, but seems to brighten the paint up much better than T cut. I then use Nanotech silicone polish as this tends to really bring up the depth of colour and protect the paint. But it does take a lot of buffing after to get a shine on! Grand job on a snowy Sunday like this!
