cleaning chrome from black spots

My bike came with the optoonal extra of rusty chrome. Using the tinfoil method i have managed to get rid of the rust but am left with a lot of black spots.

I have tried wondow cleaner, toothpaste, brasso and autosol bit its not budging.

Is this something i have to live with or is there something else I try?

Try some 0000 grade steel wool dipped in oil. It's gentle but will shift anything that will shift

Having now looked at it in the light it looks like the chrome is pitted, so its not coming back anytime soon, which is a shame.
