I am trying to help a customer find out how old his bike is.Has anyone seen anything about identifying Claud Butlers from the frame no.
Looks like 5 or S 173494.
Thanks.jm.

Re:

Hi, it does help to have a picture, so you can check its the right era, and Claud changed hands a number of times. If its a 'real' claud, the serial number should be 517 3494 maybe with a space or in two lines, which would indicate July 1951, before 1950 claud's just had the year at the start i.e. it could be 1945 or 1935, hence you see the need for a piccie, but at a guess its a 1951. Anything from 1955 to late seventies is a mixture of Holdsworth numbering and some had, from I guess 1957/8 to early sixties a strange Holdsworth Claud numbering system, I hope this helps there are plenty of claud catalogues about on the web, to help with the model. I hope this helps. Terry
