Claud Butler. Fillet Brazed, Road/Track. 1953

Update the thread title as discussions deviated to the actual frame...

Just got a frame back from Argos after enamelling...

Eager to build as but wondering if I should be patient and wait. I've heard you should wait a month for the paint to properly cure. Fact or Myth?

It's a fillet brazed frame, and I've noticed the paint on the very, very thin edges of tubes such as head tube and seat tube seem rather fragile. Don't want to find to find pressing the cups in causes a small chip to run or anything. It's a plain rather metallic enamel.

So any experience with this? Should I wait?

Re: Post re-paint: Enamel Cure time? Wait to build?

The paint will still be 'soft' and best left for a few weeks to set properly IMO

Thanks for the reply. Was hoping someone would tell me to leave it well alone. So hard to wait!

Re:

hi i just wondered ,what kind of enamel ? its obviously not stove enamel .i watched a program recently
about vintage railway carriages ,they hand paint them with polyurethane enamel .
im going to google the word now. but i do know that stove enamel is really tough stuff and now im interested in the curing process.

Re: Post re-paint: Enamel Cure time? Wait to build?

Even when dried in the oven the paint takes time to cure once out in the open

Re: Post re-paint: Enamel Cure time? Wait to build?

Argos call it stove enamelling. The actual paint used, I have no idea. It's sprayed and baked, so stoving process? Lovely job they've done actually. First time I've used them. Pricier than other places I've used, but exceptionally good service.

Here you go.

Gave it some wheels to 'cure' on! Already had the chrome. Paint is a subtler colour. Early '60s Bianchi celeste type colour.

I'd been admiring Kevin Sayles Bianchi...

...but know I'll never afford one of those!

Oh, it's a '53 Claud Butler by the way...

Very nice indeed, Argos do a great job of them
