Im in the process of stripping a Flying Scot down in prep for a new paint job
Being new to stripping down 50-60 year old bikes is the brazing would become apparent and id see how it was all made :D

Except the ends of the forks and its beginning to look the ends at the dropouts might have been originally chromed. Reason for think this is where the dropouts are brazed in there is not brass braze. Its there in other sections of the tubing but the ends seem to be two tone base metal and i wondered if this difference in colour was due to it maybe being chromed at the front/rear dropouts and a bit up the tubes

On the fork, this 2 colour extends right to way up to about 3" below the crown

Im stripping bits at the mo and its really tough to clean off the paint,so lots of stripper being employed and i cant do a pic till ive at least cleaned it back

Thoughts??

If it turns out to be ill have it redone 8)

It wouldn't be unusual for a Flying Scot to have half chrome, or just the fork tips chromed. Something like this:

A piccy will help though :)

Are you respraying the frame yourself? I know most painters prefer to strip frames themselves and for the extra cost of around £10 its often not worth doing it yourself.

 That is the colours i was thinking for this . Red with a white headtube . Nice shade of red :? Any idea of its exact colour/number.
Was also thinking of the lug lining to be done in black to accentuate the shadow :?

Miles away yet,but ill get there.

Chrome is most likely it then. Anyone got any idea on price to have it redone :? And although ive stripped it more or less, its not a great job and maybe a dip and careful shot blast would be a better idea

I have the number off it and its 152 I .Not sure if thats an uppercase i or a lowercase L

My current Ti is Russian. Shown at interbike but thats the sum of the info i have on it. Its got amazing welding and was mirror polished. Try as i might i cant find any info on its original sale or owner etc Some wouldnt care, but its that type of history i love knowing.

Ill have to email the Flying Scot site and see if they have any records pertaining to it :? I'd love to know its history 8)
