Chrome

Apologies for resurrecting an old thread.

Has anyone tried any kind of chrome paint to brush over the severely damaged spots? Any prep/application tricks?

E.g. I have a fork that has about 95% healthy chrome coverage. The damaged/rusty bits are mainly around the lug area, so not even very visible once the bike is built up. Getting it re-chromed is too expensive, getting it blasted and painted seems like a waste of good chrome 🤔 .

Thank you.
That is, indeed, expensive.
Whole bike kit won't be far off chrome-plating it.

I just need a tiny amount of paint for touch up though.

Actually, they have a £13 touch up kit. But it's £15 shipping!

Ordered one of them chrome marker pens that claim to be water resistant. Will see how it goes.

On my Denti the outer tip of the fork dropout had some chrome loss, so I cleaned it, polished the steel and painted a little gloss lacquer over it. Still looks good a year later!

In non-bike projects I've found the Montana Gold spray can Chrome range pretty convincing for metal effects.
