Newspapers in general, but tabloids in particular (and I include the Daily Mail although they don't like being compared to the Sun/Mirror) always hide behind the mantra of "Freedom of the Press" when justifying their sleazy methods of gathering and printing gossip. They insult the principle.

They also use the phrase "in the public interest" when what they mean is "of interest to those members of the public who love a scandal (and who buy our papers)"

The Mail might not be a red-top but it's just as bad as the other tabloids for running sensationalist/reactionary toss. As for Morgan, how the bloke responsible for running those infamous faked torture pics involving the Queen's Lancashire Regiment during his stint as Mirror editor has the nerve to turn up at stuff like the Pride of Britain Awards beggars belief. What a turd.

Aye- apparently he changed his appearance after the press furor....illustrates the absolute bollocks that made up the press stories- he looked like a weird sort (just the right Quentin Crisp-esque touches), and the 'stories' proved it! All the elements to make a nice juicy christmas murder scoop.

Bit of a contrast seeing the smart and articulate gentleman giving evidence yesterday...
