Have you used the e reader? I wanted one of these years ago, but they floundered a bit, saw a few recently and had a wee go in Waterstones. Dunno think I might still prefer the tactile nature of a book?

Since I've got mine I've hardly read a proper book. I like the fact that you can keep 100s of books on a memory card. Also a lot of books on my reader have been downloaded from the internet (not pirated ones before you say anything).

There's quite a lot of good novels that aren't published in hard-copy format and you can't read any other way (except on PCs/laptops which aren't as portable).

I guess you can read them in the dark which is a good thing, but I can't take any electronics in to work so paper copy for a while yet. It is a great idea for holidays I suppose. Did it take you long to get used to it? The scrolling and that, is the screen a bit flickery? I think I'd miss the feeling of how much is left of a book if you know what I mean.

I would like Father Christmas to bring me a Pace RC300. Hmm, begs the question, which handles better on flowing singletrack, a MTB or a reindeer with a red nose. I suppose oncomers on the trail would think your reversing towards them whilst trying the red nosed deer option.

I have seen the Sony e-reader in Waterstone's the other day, but it did seem a bit flickery when turning the pages, maybe that was just the battery was getting a bit low or summat.

I'm a book fanatic (especially Terry Pratchett 8) ) and so it would be brill for me to be able to carry loads of books around with me at once without needing a transit van! Lol!!

But I do look the feel of a real book, and so if I liked the book enough on the e-reader then I'd probably buy a hard copy anyway ... bonkers I know!

You can if they're LCD based but my one's based on e-Ink which looks exactly like paper. I have got the Sony PRS-505 and bought it from Waterstones. I also got a reading light for it so I can read it in the dark. The one advantage that e-Ink has over LCD is that it only uses power when "turning" the page.

No, that's how it is all the time. It's something to do with the e-Ink technology, not a fault. Some people find it annoying but you get used to it. Battery life is very good though - better than most of the LCD based readers.

I'm currently looking at getting a SmartQ7 which is LCD based but larger than my PRS-505.
