Am surprised this thread has only been replied to by drinkers of british ales.
Which is a wonderful thing - don't get me wrong.
But what about our members across the Atlantic, or on the other side of the Channel?
I'm going to throw a Danish beer into the equation - not that I think they export it. But it's the best Christmas beer I've had the pleasure of to date.
Ølfabrikken Hvid jul (8,5 %) (The Beer Factory, White Christmas)
Øfabrikken Hvid jul is a strong, complex wheat beer spiced with camomile, coriander and orange-peel.
This slightly cloudy, corn-yellow beer with the characteristic froth of a wheat beer presents itself with a flowery scent of camomile flowers, with a hint of melon and citrus fruit from the yeast.
The flavours are soft and round, slightly bitter, and it has a spicy finish. In the mouth, the beer is creamy yet sparkles like champagne.
On the Christmas table, Hvid Jul should be enjoyed during the cheese course, where its refreshing bubbles would be the perfect accompaniment to a mature brie. Serve at 6-8C in a rounded glass, which allows the froth to expand and maintain the fine aromas.
Ølfabrikken is part of the Gourmet Brewery of Roskilde.
