Chris King headset - lower bearing/crown race Q

Well it's been a long time without posting for myself, but the retro-bug has been floating around this winter, and caught me again :D . Been catching up with a couple years of great bikes posted here - the site is huge!

So I am rebuilding a bike. It has a not so old headset, King circa 2010. But upon reinstalling the headset will come stuck when loading the bearings - this is due to this integrated plastic washer at the bottom (looks to be a seal for the bearings) - the crown race wont sit on the cone.

Now I can't remember having this issue before. I can't guarantee the crown race I found it the original one from this headset - but it is similar to another King HS i have, which doesn't have the plastic bit.

Does anyone know the solution to this issue? Could it be that a different crown race is required? Cheers!

Sylvain

That doesn't look like the right crown race. It should sit against the inner angled part of the bearing.

The problem is that the bit that looks like a crown race shouldn't be there. Here's a pic pinched from the internet:

Re:

I am such a fool. A couple years ago I stuck this plastic washer from a cassette in there cos I couldnt locate the crown race, and wanted to hang the frame and forks on the wall, without damaging the headset.

It all came to to me all of a sudden. Old age eh. Thanks for the help anyway!
