Cherry picking bits from 2 bikes - Help please.

Devout Dirtbag
I've been given two 97-98 era bikes. A Kona Hahanna 98 (rudolph red) I'm going to keep and a Trek Y3 which I'm going to get going and give to an uncle in his bid to get fit.

I want to cherry pick the best bits of the 2 bikes onto the Kona (as much as I can - going to keep the forks on each bike).

Except I'm not too sure on which bits are better (wheels mainly).

Can you help me out please?

Part ------- Trek ------- Kona
Rear Mech ------- XT ------- Acera X
Front mech ------- STX ------- Acera X
Rear rim ------- Matrix Swami ------- X517
Rear hub ------- STXRC FH-MC38A ------- Acera X FH-M290
Rear tyre ------- Jones 46/50R biscuit ------- Kona Break R
Front Rim -------- Matrix Swami ------- I think another X517
Front hub -------- HB-MC33 ------- HB-MC12
Front tyre -------- Jones 49/53F biscuit ------- Kona Enter F
Brake levers ------- Diacompe DB7 V's ------- Tektro V's
calipers ------- Diacompe VC737 ------- Tektro
Crank ------- Sugino Impel 300 ------- Acera X
Cassette ------- 8spd ------- 7 spd
Forks ------- RS Indy C long travel ------- Project 2
Shifters ------- Shimano (red 8S) ------- gripshift thing
TBH can't see any details on the shifters apart from the red 8S with silvered outline on the trek rear shifter.

Don't think the stems/seatposts or bars are anything to write home about.

Better hubs on the Trek but I've never heard of Swarmi compared to the X517 rims. If the wheels swop over then so does the rear mech (will have to double check the front for compatibility).

Tyres are in great nick but I'll be swopping for some big apples as the bikes will never really go off road (the kona might in 10 years when the nipper is old enough).

Thanks in advance!

edit to say the formatting has gone to pot.

The Trek pretty much beats the Kona across the board there. XT is one down from the top and Acera X one up from the bottom with STX being middle of the road

Re:

As above, every part of the trek is better than the Kona, but the Kona frame, fork, stem etc is better than the Trek. Wheels on the trek are better than the Kona. Bar stem seatpost should be kept with their respective bikes

Re:

That's great - many thanks for the help.

wheels, brakes and drive chain will be going onto the Kona, not 100% that the Front mech will fit yet (I vaguely remember there being a lot of top/bottom pull type things going on back then). Kona has a cheapy Kalloy seatpost (surely not original?) in silver so i'll change that to a black one to go with rest of the bike.

Would the tyres be of interest to anyone? Both sets are in great nick, brother used the bikes very rarely (frames have mainly cosmetic damage from being poorly stacked on the bike carrier rather than from riding), been stored in a cold garage out of the sun and have loads of tread left on them.

The Kalloy post would've been standard fare on that bike for sure and of course you need to get the correct diameter and pull front mech so might want to keep the Acera on the Kona for the time being (you can always upgrade at a later date). The Break/Enter tyres weren't the best but you're sure to find a buyer if you stick them up in the for sale section. Can't help with the Jones tyres though I'm afraid

Re:

No worries - you've gone above and beyond anything I expected, feel cheeky that I'm sticking trek parts on the Kona but I suspect the Trek will not last long so I might as well have the decent bits on the Kona.

I'm more at home with bikes a few years younger than these (LRS variations) and these were out of my area of knowledge.

Many thanks, I'll post pre/post op piccies for the vultures to pick over ;)
