Hello,

I've been using a Panasonic Lumix TZ6 that I bought off ebay for £60 for the last 4 years and it has served me well, but it now has some quite marked scratches in the middle of the lens which are giving an annoying blur to the very centre of my photos.

So, I'm looking to replace it, preferably for less that one hundred quid  . I've had a quick look around ebay etc and think that a Lumix LX5 might fit the bill?, but wondered whether any photographers here had any experiences of the camera or others that might be a better bet?.

Thanks for your time. Matt

Re:

I've just bought my first Panasonic Lumix after wanting one for years, £40 on ebay and can't fault it, I really love it and the pic quality is great, easy Autofocus, etc. It's the Lumix FZ28, seem to go for very cheap money on the bay.

Had to buy a new battery, USB cable and SD card, which I got from Digi Quick on line rather than ebay, but all in all wish I'd never left it so long....if you like your Panasonic I would definitely stick with the brand!

Re:

What sort of camera?

The range from full frame dslr for professional photography to tiny pocket cameras for taking snaps

There is a huge price difference, size and capability at each end of the range

You like the panasonic, get another, you already know where the buttons are etc so dont have a learning curve
All the makes are competetive at their price points.

sony a300 plus lens is a good price dslr for a tad over a ton....or a canon eos d60 is god value...

I have a mint d100 with nikon 70 300 vr lens and it's really nice.cost a tinkle over 110...most of that was the lens being new.it's got the battery grip for extra charge and was a grand total of 40 quid posted.that included the compact flash card too.very well made robust camera..just a tad heavy.the nikon are ideal to look at as most nikon lenses will work withe even the older stuff

Agreed that old DSLRs care a good option for really nice photos if you can tolerate the bulk. A D70s/D100 is an amazing camera for around £100 secondhand

Lumix work really well, I love them as they take good photos and pack really small with decent battery life. They do tend to pick up fibres into the zooms with time, but dismantling and cleaning them is relatively simple for the types on this forum. I found the instructions on YouTube, dismantled, three puffs with a blower and back together in 20 mins, problem solved.

Re:

Thanks for the replies guys. In the end I opted for a year old Sony that fits in my pocket and takes great snaps on the auto setting. I did start to get lured by the dark side of separate bodies and lens etc (a few hours were lost on ebay trawling thru second-hand camera adverts), but came too just in time, realising that I already have one expensive(ish) hobby! :D .
