Chas Roberts frame and bits

my genesis is actually stickered as a white spyder as i always wanted one

when it gets a 10 year makeover sometime over next 18 months it will return to be a stickered genesis

enjoy the build-and please post the pictures for all us steel fans to enjoy

Well done Prometheus, I think you got a good deal. Colour-tech does all of Chas's spraying they don't use powdercoating.

Looking forward to seeing it built up.

Matt

Yeah I was sure they were sprayed too :P

Congrats on the purchase, I shall be watching with interest.

I had mine re-sprayed by Woodrups in leeds, it was a tidy job but they failed to follow some of my instruction. The original decals were flush with the paint then lacquered over, I asked them to replicate this...they failed and just stuck them on top of the paint and under the lacquer, but not flush.

Gutted I missed out, but I'm glad it's found a home on here. I look forward to seeing it restored. :)

Thanks Folks :D

Jerky... How would you get the decals flush? the only way I can think is a very thin film transfer as opposed to a normal decal or perhaps masking the decals and spraying up to the level but that sounds very complicated :?

.

I believe that it was done by masking the decals then spraying a few additional coats of paint before finishing in lacquer. Klein has a similar sort of finish on their decals. Certainly a costly and time consuming process but the quality of the finish was something a little special. I have not seen many other Roberts to compare to, so I dont know if it was standard or perhaps a special request touch. Will be interesting to see what yours is like.

from 99 klein catalogue which that year had pages on alumionium and paint for some reason

"what is debossing
for the most part we dont put decals on our bikes.any logos or script you see are layers of paint that have been maksed and clear coated.first we'll spray on the colour of the logo and mask it.then the bike will be painted.when the mask is removed you have a logo that is an integral part of the finish.they chipor scrape off like decals.it requires a lo of work by hand and it all has to be done in a day"

i changed the spelling of colour to english-hope no one minds

one reason even if a small one why the frames cost so much for non custom
