Shaun - it's a Basso Gap frame from the early eighties I believe

the distance from the highest point of the race to the end of the axle needs to be about 36mm......measure in from the end of the axle........where does 36mm take you?

That would mean the end of the axle projected 5mm more than it does now - that would do it

By the way how much should I tighten the crank bolts - just until there is no play on the crank arms or keep going?

Perhaps this is why Velobase quotes a 120mmm axle.

I would have thought a length around 113-115 would do it but obviously not.

Thought post 1978 GS Italian axles were 115.5 mm long and assymetrical ?
