Chainrings And Cranks ?

Now you over 5 posts old you can post a pic of the offending bike and parts we should be able to point you in the right direction.

look on the bottom shelves at Halfords and you'll find compatible chainsets from Suntour for about £24. The staff should be able to assist with the correct BB but dont count on it.

Ok.... here a re a few pics... yes its a cheap bike and not worth anything to most people but i want to keep it for a few personal reasons and the fact that i dont like the new style stuff thats out there.... believe it or not its comfortable as hell and actually weighs less than a Chris Boardman Comp that i had last year..

Strange thing tho... 5 speed rear but the dropouts are 130mm ( i thought it would have been 120mm )... plan now is maybe change the rear hub for a 7 speed unless i can fit a 7 speed cassette to that hub ... ??????

Bike looks a little worse for wear but its going to be an on going project... so watch this space ..lol.

Can anyone help me on this .... looking at the fact that the spacing on the dropouts is 130mm.. Can i fit a 7 speed freewheel directly to my exsisting hub.. or do i need to replace it with a dedicated 7 speed hub.. btw i will be fitting 7/8 speed cranks if that has ny bearing on this.... cheers.

Hit the frame...even with 130mm spacing... ??? .. most 7 speed hubs are 130mm or am i missing something ...lol

Its the space between the the hub and the drive side rear stay - its spaced for a 5 or 6 spd freewheel but not a 7. You would have to take the axle out and move the spacers about to make it fit in the frame, then you would have to re-dish the rear wheel.

A 6spd would fit straight in without any problems.

Have a look here to find out what you need to do:

Well thats a simple enough task... one other question for you.. if i were to replace the whole hub with a more modern 7 speed.. would the wheel need replacing... ive read some people have replaced the wheels... i cant see why so long as the hub has 36 holes.
