Hi... new here so hello to everyone.. Just wondering if someone can help me out.. i have an old (1998 ish ) Raliegh mountain bike, i love this thing, its far more comfortable than the current crop of compact frame types and its something i dont really want to part with.

The bike needs some work with regards to chainrings and cranks.. can someone tell me what my options are.. i want to keep the bike looking as retro and close to origional as possible, its a 15 speed thus has a 5 speed cassette.. soooo.. what are my options on the crank side of things.. 5 speed cassette = 5 speed chain = 5 speed rings but i cant seem to find any rings.. unless im missing something..lol.. cheers.

Thanks for the reply... if i were to replace the cranks all together, is any types/makes you would recommend.. i plan on chainging the bottom bracket from the lockring type to the sealed type.. it will be square taper btw.

Halfords have cheap bottom brackets in at the moment, reserve online for 20% off.

Shell wide depends on the width of your frame where the BB fits, 68 or 73mm. Spindle length depends on your new chainset, or if you're just going to change the chainrings measure your old spindle width.

Bottom bracket loosens towards the front of the bike, on both sides.

You could always stick a want ad. on here, or watch the sales.

I was looking to change the the cranks and rings.. the stock cranks look bashed to hell (not by me) im just having trouble finding which cranks to go for.. the bottom brackets seem to be ten a penny, cranks seem to be a different story tho.. specially as im looking for retro looking ones.

If its a 98 and only a 15 speed by the time you have spent out upgrading to 7/8 speed you would be better off getting a different bike. Plenty of good bargains to be had on here. Have a look in the sales ad's.

Tbh... i dont really want to go with another bike due to sentimental reasons... i dont really mind spending money on it im just a little stuck on what my options are.
