chainring/spider question/help!

Old School Hero
picked up some forged FSA cranks off ebay and they were delivered today.

i knew the chainring/spider fitted was integrated, looking at the rear of the cranks, i just wondered if there's going to be any chance of picking up a different spider so i can run a more conventional setup ie my own choice of outer ring?!

common sense tells me i should just email FSA but thought i'd check here for inspiration first!

:D

just to annoy me, the chainring/spider looks likes it's going to be staying because the bolts are siezed fast. :(

Cut the outer chainring off, retaining the parts with the bolt holes for the middle ring. With some faffing around/filing to get the middle 'ring/outer 'ring spacings right, you should be able to run your choice of chainrings.

very interesting bodge!

i'm going to see what, if any spider options there are, but if nothing comes of it i may well give your suggestion a go.

I'd give it a squirt of Plus Gas every morning and evening for a week. It will probably free it up. PlusGas is way thinner than WD40.

For undoing the bolts, consider buying a really top quality allen bit and fitting it to an impact driver to shock it undone.
