Carrera Quattro Comp

Yes, agree about the frame being a bit of a dark horse. I thought the bike was completely underrated, never seemed to get any mentions in the mags that mattered back then. Will have to try to find my photo and get it posted.

IIRC, MBUK (which was the only mag that mattered back then lets be honest) gave it quite a high score actually.

Somebody here must have the review somewhere!

Must have missed that copy somewhere along the line then. I did buy every single copy from mid-late 89 to 94, but has i bought my Carrera in 1990 and i think at that stage it was reduced because they were moving on to the e-stay model, i would make a deduction that it was reviewed early 89. Could be wrong though. The great thing about the bike at the time though, was the fact that it had been reduced from about £699 to £499, and at that time my mother in law worked for boots and you could use your Boots discount card in Halfords, so i ended up blagging myself an extra 20% off. What a steal.

I had a mate with one of those, it was a nice bike and under-rated (mainly because it was Halfords own brand and the rest of the Carrera bikes on offer were a bit, ahem, basic). I remember an MBUK article in which they rated it well though. The Carrera ads had some bloke climbing up a cliff face with a Quattro Comp strapped to his back, as the claimed weight of the bike was quite light for back then.

Will dig out the 'rock-climbing' ad as well as the (frankly absurd considering the rider is about to plummet off a sheer drop of several hundred feet... ) "You're about to find out why this bike costs 650 quid" one if anyone wants me to:D

Dossa you're a star.

It was that review way back in 1990 that convinced me to buy a Quattro Comp.

Top work fella.

My apologies over the assumption that it was reviewed early '89. The sad thing is i would have read that review, but cant remember! But then again i cant even remember what i had for my tea last nite, and that was yesterday

Ooh that reveiew just got my interest again! Clarified what i thought about the frame tubes/ BB shell & chainstays...
