The Cobra is a beautiful bike. I think the blue ones had 10 speed gears - the 70's ones using Simplex gears ( not sure about thwe 60's ones). Ive got a red / chrome one.
Id love to see some pictures.

carlton rebuild

unfortunatlet the chrome is quite badly pitted and have had to paint most of the frame also got a simplex derailleur but am not using it on this plus a triplex one and a few sachs huret for sale.

Personally Id avoid the 'fixie' route. Im sick of hearing about good bikes being converted into this trendy fad.

As stated blue merged panels would indicate a 10-speed model if its a 70s version. Simplex prestige was the rear mech on these, 60s Cobras still had chrome frame sets with different equipment and finishes.

Interesting pile of bits you have!

If you do SS/FG it, keep all the bits so you can return it to original if you want to. It's your bike so do what you want with it!

I find singlespeed to be far better around town. Fixed-gear is great fun in the countryside but SS is more practical in my opinion.
